Cyclone ‘Arnab’ Intensifies: Andhra Pradesh Braces for Landfall

A "very severe cyclonic storm" named Arnab is currently tracking toward the Andhra Pradesh coast, prompting widespread emergency preparations across the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts as the system moves closer to landfall, which is expected to occur tomorrow.

Regional Impact and Precautions

The storm is already influencing weather patterns, with light showers reported in northern Andhra Pradesh. Authorities have warned of squally winds reaching speeds of 70 kmph, particularly affecting the districts of Anakapalle, Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, and Vizianagaram. In response to the impending threat, local administrations have ordered the closure of schools and implemented cancellations for several train services.

Beyond Andhra Pradesh, the cyclone's reach is expected to impact neighboring Odisha, where officials have restricted access to beaches and issued safety advisories for fishermen in the Paradeep area. The system is also projected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall to parts of West Bengal, including the Kolkata region.

Residents in the path of the storm are advised to remain updated through official IMD bulletins as the cyclone approaches the coast.
