The draw for the Round of 16 in the DFB-Pokal has set up several high-profile matches, highlighted by Eintracht Frankfurt hosting Borussia Dortmund. The pairings were drawn on Sunday at the German Football Museum in Dortmund by women's national handball coach Markus Gaugisch, acting as the draw official.
The very first pairing drawn delivered the marquee matchup of the round between Frankfurt and Dortmund. In another notable fixture, Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich were drawn at home against 2nd Bundesliga leaders Hertha BSC. The contest between Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig stands out as the only other pairing featuring two top-tier Bundesliga clubs.
Across the remaining fixtures, the remaining top-flight clubs will face the six surviving teams from the 2nd Bundesliga. The DFB-Pokal winner secures qualification for the league phase of the following season's UEFA Europa League, though this spot reverts to the Bundesliga table if the cup winner already qualifies for European competition through the league.
