U.S. Military Conducts Limited Strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island

The U.S. military carried out targeted strikes on Monday hitting Iran’s Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, according to reports from U.S. media and officials. The military action unfolded as international attention focused on regional tensions and upcoming U.S. midterm elections.

According to two U.S. officials, the operation was not a resumption of major combat operations against Iran. Instead, they described the actions as limited and defensive, coming in direct response to ongoing Iranian efforts to target maritime shipping lanes and U.S. assets in the area. Officials noted that American forces routinely intercept drones and missiles directed at commercial shipping vessels, and cited recent weeks of harassment by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps against U.S. manned and unmanned aircraft operating near the Strait of Hormuz.

Following the reports of the strikes, oil prices saw a slight uptick. Meanwhile, diplomatic channels remain active as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi recently stated that Tehran remains open to dialogue, emphasizing that Iran is willing to give diplomacy a chance alongside military preparedness.
