WAtoday Launches New Subscriber Feature to Gift Articles

WAtoday has rolled out a new subscriber feature allowing readers to share stories—including subscriber-only content—with friends, family, and colleagues. Announced on October 26, 2026, the update provides digital subscribers with monthly gifting credits to distribute quality journalism.

Under the new benefit, Starter Digital subscribers receive three article-gifting credits per month, while Premium Digital readers receive five. Luke McIlveen, Executive Editor of The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Brisbane Times, and WAtoday, noted that the function aims to help readers easily pass along content that sparks conversation and debate.

To use the feature, subscribers can click the gift icon located next to the reporter’s name and the save and share buttons at the top of an article. Selecting "share article as gift" generates a unique link that can be copied and sent to others. Recipients can access the gifted article for free for up to three visits or seven days, whichever comes first.

Gifting credits reset on the first of every month and do not roll over. Starter Digital subscribers looking to increase their allowance can upgrade to a Premium subscription via their My Account page to gain two additional monthly credits.
