Rep. Yoon Sang-hyun of the People Power Party (PPP) has publicly endorsed Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon as a formidable presidential candidate, following the mayor's recent acquittal in an appellate court case regarding alleged illegal campaign financing.
"A Different Path from Jang Dong-hyuk"
During the interview, Yoon drew a sharp distinction between Oh and PPP representative Jang Dong-hyuk. He suggested that Oh’s established position as a five-term mayor and his appeal to moderate, metropolitan, and youth voters make him a unique figure within the party. When asked if Jang might attempt to keep the mayor in check, Yoon dismissed the possibility, noting that Oh’s firm political standing makes him difficult to challenge.
Regarding the broader political landscape, Yoon addressed the potential for unifying various conservative figures, including Oh, independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon, and Reform Party lawmaker Lee Jun-seok. While he emphasized that these individuals are all potential partners for the party’s future, he admitted that a concrete roadmap for such a coalition has yet to be developed.
