The People’s Action Party (PAP) has finalized the lineup for its 39th Central Executive Committee (CEC) following a party conference held on Sunday, Oct 25, 2026. The ballot marked the first leadership election for Secretary-General Lawrence Wong since he led the party through his inaugural General Election as Prime Minister last year.
Election Results and Leadership
Party cadres elected 12 members to the CEC via secret ballot from a pool of 19 candidates. Following the vote, Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry Tan See Leng and Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Zaqy Mohamad were co-opted into the committee, securing the 13th and 14th highest vote counts, respectively. The PAP constitution permits the co-option of up to six additional members.
While first-term Members of Parliament Jeffrey Siow and Jasmin Lau were nominated for the party’s top decision-making body, they were not elected. Other candidates on the ballot included Josephine Teo, Sim Ann, and Alex Yam.
Looking Ahead
The newly elected committee includes core leaders such as Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and ministers Desmond Lee, Chan Chun Sing, Masagos Zulkifli, K Shanmugam, and Grace Fu. Specific internal appointments, including the roles of chairman and treasurer, are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Addressing the conference, Prime Minister Wong emphasized that the party’s past achievements do not guarantee future support. He urged members to remain connected to younger generations and to maintain the trust of Singaporeans through consistent service and decisive leadership.
