October's Full Hunter's Moon Dazzles Stargazers Worldwide

The full Hunter's Moon illuminated the autumn sky overnight, capturing the attention of stargazers globally with a stunning natural light display. October's full moon traditionally receives its name because it historically rose around the period when hunters headed out into freshly harvested fields, appearing shortly before the lunar disk reached complete illumination.

Observers around the world documented the event with striking photography. Veteran New York photographer Gary Hershorn captured an image of the full moon rising behind the architecture of the Empire State Building, shooting from Hoboken, New Jersey. Additional captures featured the lunar disk glowing in an orange hue during the evening sky.

Looking Ahead

Following the Hunter's Moon event, the next full moon is scheduled to occur when the lunar disk reaches its closest point to Earth within its elliptical orbit. This upcoming alignment will produce a supermoon capable of shining brightly.
