A sequence of extreme high tides brought widespread flooding to coastal communities on Tuesday, impacting a Newport Beach home known for its eclectic outdoor decorations, shops along the Pacific Coast Highway in Sunset Beach, and homes on Naples Island in Long Beach.
Flooding Persists Despite Precautions
Property owners and businesses utilized sandbags along seawalls and the lower boardwalk of the pier to prepare for the surging water. Despite these efforts, rising water levels successfully breached the barriers and flooded the area on Tuesday. Vukojevic, a local commentator on the event, noted that the tides arrived significantly higher than initial forecasts, recalling that past years have seen tides reach about a foot above predictions. Concerns remain regarding potential weather developments before Thanksgiving, specifically the possibility of an atmospheric river arriving.
Ahead of Tuesday's peak in the ongoing string of mega high tides, authorities closed the Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach.
