Residents across Nova Scotia are reporting significant difficulties securing appointments for this season's COVID-19 and influenza vaccines. As the province’s respiratory virus season begins, high public interest has led to a surge in demand that is outpacing available booking slots.
High Demand Strains Booking System
Many residents have expressed frustration after spending days attempting to navigate the provincial scheduling system. Sue Earle, a resident of Tremont, N.S., noted that it took her an entire week of repeated attempts to successfully secure appointments for both her and her husband.
Provincial health officials acknowledge the bottleneck. Dr. Jesse Kancir, Nova Scotia’s deputy chief medical officer of health, confirmed that interest in the dual-vaccination program is notably higher this year compared to the previous season. While the province encourages residents to get vaccinated to mitigate the impact of respiratory illnesses, the current volume of requests has created a temporary backlog for those seeking timely access.
Health authorities continue to manage the rollout as more appointment windows become available to meet the heightened public demand.
