Storm Boelo Brings Wind and Rain to UK

A yellow weather warning for wind is in place across England and Wales as Storm Boelo hits the UK, bringing strong winds and heavy rain to large parts of the country. The storm is expected to disrupt travel and cause power cuts, with hundreds of homes still without power after Storm Austen hit the country on Friday.

The Met Office has issued an amber wind warning for parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northern England, with gusts of up to 80mph expected in exposed coastal areas. Yellow rain warnings are also in place for Wales and large parts of England, including the South East, the North West, the South West, the West Midlands, and Yorkshire and Humber.

National Grid says it has restored power to over 60,000 homes, but hundreds are still without power in parts of England and Wales. The Environment Agency warns of further flooding in Scarborough, with three flood warnings and 14 flood alerts in place across England.

ScotRail has announced speed restrictions on some routes, with some services not running and cancellations possible as Storm Boelo hits. National Rail is warning of potential disruption to journeys and encouraging people to check before they travel.

The UK is bracing for its second storm in two days, with the north hunkering down for Storm Boelo as the south-west recovers from Storm Austen. The storms are not unusual, with the winter months typically producing the highest number of UK storms.
