Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has publicly labeled the Lok Sabha elections "illegal," citing widespread allegations of voter deletions. Speaking during a symbolic "public impeachment" event organized by the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, Gandhi alleged that the electoral process was compromised by the systematic removal of legitimate voters from the rolls.
I.N.D.I.A. Bloc Targets Election Commission
The opposition coalition, led by Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, directed their criticism toward Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. During the proceedings, Kharge outlined six specific charges against the official, accusing the Election Commission of centralizing electoral rolls and failing to maintain transparency. The bloc has formally demanded that Kumar face trial, with some leaders calling for charges of treason regarding the management of the polls.
In response, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dismissed the opposition's actions as a political stunt. Party representatives mocked the "public impeachment" as a "mock Parliament," arguing that the opposition is attempting to undermine constitutional institutions after failing to secure a mandate in the general elections.
As the political standoff continues, the I.N.D.I.A. bloc maintains that their protest is a necessary step to address what they describe as a fundamental breach of democratic integrity. The Election Commission has not yet issued a formal response to the specific allegations raised during the event.
