US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Visits India for Energy and Trade Talks
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio traveled to India for a two-day official visit, holding high-level discussions in Mumbai with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The diplomatic engagement highlights ongoing discussions regarding bilateral energy portfolios, regional cooperation, and economic ties.
During his visit, Rubio acknowledged India's efforts to diversify its energy sources and reduce its heavy reliance on Russian oil imports. While India remains a significant buyer of Russian petroleum, Washington has sought to expand US energy exports to the nation. Rubio noted that while transitioning energy supplies presents logistical challenges, India has demonstrated substantial progress.
The diplomatic trip also coincides with intensive negotiations between Washington and New Delhi to finalize a long-awaited bilateral trade agreement. Rubio indicated that both nations are nearing a final accord, stating that negotiators are about as close as possible without an executed contract remaining to be signed.
