Jurors at Cambridge Crown Court have been shown CCTV footage of a chaotic scene on a York to London LNER train, where passengers and staff used improvised weapons—including a toaster, a frying pan, and a woman’s Zimmer frame—to fend off a man armed with a knife.
A Violent Confrontation
Another victim, Stephen Crean, recounted a struggle with the attacker near the buffet car. Crean described grappling with Williams to disarm him, noting that the assailant appeared calm and focused throughout the encounter. Other passengers reported using a catering trolley as a barricade and throwing a full-size toaster at the attacker to stop his advance.
Legal Proceedings
Anthony Williams, of Langford Road, Peterborough, faces 10 counts of attempted murder related to the train incident. He is also charged with four additional counts of attempted murder stemming from earlier incidents in Peterborough and London. While the defense does not dispute that Williams carried out the attacks, the jury is tasked with determining whether he possessed the intent to kill. The trial continues.
