Jodie Burrage Addresses Normalization of Online Abuse in Tennis

British tennis player Jodie Burrage has opened up about the persistent online abuse she faces following match losses, noting that such hostility has become an expected, albeit unfortunate, part of her professional life.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Burrage explained that while the messages she receives after defeats are often aggressive, they no longer trigger a sense of personal fear. Instead, the frequency of these attacks has led to a state of desensitization among players. She emphasized that while the content of the messages is often vitriolic, the regularity of the abuse has made it a predictable consequence of competing in the public eye.
